October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Most of us know of the pink products available for sale at Target and large department stores but do you know of the other ways you can participate in the fight against breast cancer? I'm writing this because as I was researching this topic, it occured to me that I don't know either. I was going to make this about the different products and stores that donate proceeds to breast cancer research when I decided to go with another angle.
Listed below is what I found out.
Events/Activities to support the cause
1. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer - a non-competitive walk to raise money and awareness for American Cancer Society
2. Susan G Komen Race for the Cure - raises funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
3. Stand Up for Survival- virtual walk to raise money for programs and services dedicated to young women affected by breast cancer.
4. Bunco for Breast Cancer® - organize a Bunco party or if you're already part of a bunco group, discuss Bunco for Breast Cancer at your next bunco party and ask members to get involved in a BFBC fundraiser.
5. Passionately Pink for the Cure® - Passionately Pink for the Cure is a simple awareness and fundraising program that begins on October 1, 2007. (see link for more details)
Other Non-Tradition Ways of Giving
1. Delta Airlines - Throughout October, Delta will sell its signature pink product - pink lemonade - to customers on-board all domestic and most international flights for $2, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
No trips planned? Donate your Delta Skymiles to BCRF. Your miles ensure that BCRF can dedicate the maximum amount of funds to support life-saving research.
2. Cars for Charities - When you donate your car, truck, van or SUV to this not-for-profit organization, they will donate a minimum of 75% of the sale price of donated vehicles to the charity of your choice, including the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
